Frangipanis
Nothing says its summer more like the sweet perfumed blooms of the Plumeria, commonly known as the frangipani. This stunning small tree always adds a feeling of relaxation as the perfumed flowers are a reminder of carefree summer days spent holidaying near the beach. Frangipanis flower from November through to May and come in a variety of colours such as white, pink, red and apricot. The flowers contrast well with the fresh green foliage. These trees come in deciduous and semi deciduous varieties and can grow to about 7 metres high with a spread of about 5 metres wide. They make a great feature tree and provide shade in the summer and sun in the winter. During winter when the trees are bare, why not place a couple of hanging baskets on the braches to add interest and colour. Or why not plant two beside each other to create a natural garden arch. Frangipanis are drought tolerant and very low maintenance. Once established, they do not require fertilising and tend to look after themselves. They can be pruned back by about a third when they have finished flowering and are beginning to shed their leaves. Boyds Bay Garden World stock a variety of frangipanis so come in and get your very own truly unique, stunning plant.
